Since I did NOT tape this show, this will be very short and sweet. I bought this tape at a record show about 18 years ago. I was assured by the dealer that this tape contains the whole performance. I believe this to be the ENTIRE concert. FWIW, he told me that the tape was second gen from the vinyl.

I was not present at the show and am not familiar with the venue so here is a brief description of the concert tape:

1) The audience is surprisingly well-behaved. There is virtually no whistling, talking, shouting or screaming very close to the taper.

2) There is no distortion present. There are no speed problems or any other serious faults to prevent you from enjoying this show. My copy of this is a STRONG copy (a lot of intermittent red on the lights). I converted this to CD at a recording volume that would cause NO distortion.

3) This is a very clear recording. The instruments come through clearly and distinctly. The vocals are almost always clear. There is a little stage banter. It sounds to me like the taper was pretty close to the stage at this venue. It’s almost certainly a high-grade analog recording. I graded this show a 9-9.5/10 because a few of JW’s vocals are a little bit hard to hear. The concert is a tiny bit short as his shows go but you’ll shit your pants in pure delight when you hear how he shreds on guitar…what more of an endorsement do you need ???

So there you have it. I changed NOTHING about this recording except to track it and to remove a few irritating places where the stylus lifts on or off the record & where there were moments of overlap (repetition of musical segments on the vinyl bootleg). No music is missing. This is IMHO actually better than the vinyl boot because it’s accurately tracked and the redundant portions are edited out. Since there were almost no pops and crackles, I applied NO noise reduction or audio cleanup. That’s about all that I can think of to say, so let’s wrap this up…..

Finally, please don’t buy, sell or convert this show to mp3 or any other lossy format. Please seed this as long as you can. Please trade this freely as it is an excellent quality show. This show will be a welcome addition to any Johnny Winter fan’s collection. I will post a sample to help some of you decide whether or not to download it, but trust me, the show is excellent. As you can see, the setlist is fantastic. I don’t think that ANY Johnny Winter fan will regret downloading this show. He burns down the house on this one, so if you’ve seen him recently and think he’s great, you won’t believe your ears when you hear the guitar work featured here. You’ll see the difference between JW 1983 and JW 2009. I’ve been a fan of JW since 1972 and first sawhim live in 1984. I love & respect him but the difference between his talenton this recording and in 2009 is like night and day. So, as Mr. Natural is so fond of saying, have fun, don’t freak out and enjoy the concert !
