New solo set from Sayed Kamran Ali of Sheffield’s The Hunter Gracchus et al. Harappian Night Recordings work in the same shadowy zone as Sun City Girls’ ethno-forgery style, creating dense laminal constructs that could almost be field recordings from the Indian sub-continent using layers of string drone, primitive reeds, hand-percussion, street noise and a ton of unknown tongue. The music here feels a little more arranged and song-focussed than the Bo’Weavil debut, with the malevolent scabbery of Alan Bishop’s most lunar broadcasts caught up in claustrophobic fidelity and the feel of intercepted radio broadcasts.
