Whistler – MLK Day 2011

The plan was to drive directly from ski school at Snoqualmie Pass to Whistler on January 15 and to return on January 22. Will planned to bring a friend. The week before the trip Jerry was badly over-extended at work, including three very late nights with union negotiations. Will’s friend cancelled. It rained hard up to 8,000 feet so ski school cancelled. We drove down Saturday morning and had lunch in Vancouver. We bought some stuff at MEC and were embarassed by our visa card (even though Odette had called in advance to alert them to Canadian charges.) We stayed in Deer lodge again. Because it had rained to the top of the mountains at Whistler, too, we didn’t ski on Sunday. Monday on Whistler was okay once you got up to the Peak chair – except for the fact that you couldn’t see anything. Tuesday on Blackomb was frozen and scraped up. Wednesday on Whistler was even more so. We blew off Thursday because it was raining again and Odette and I went to the first nations cultural center where the carvers gave me a bad time about my patagucci wool top. Friday was sunny with 8 inches of new snow and Will and I skied Whistler while Odette lounged about. It was a really good skiing day. Saturday at Blackomb was also good, although everything had already been skied.
